Recording Vinyl Records

I have been trying to convert Vinyl LP to WAV format. I am using Audicity 1.2.6. When I play the turn table, I can hear the record playing through my computer ear phone, The red meter bar activates and is constantly moving. But, the track just moves across with a straight line. When I export to WAV fromat, I get an empty file, no music. I have recorded previously with 1.2.4 and was able to record. After almost a year of inactivity, 1.2.4 nor 1.2.6 is able to record. Can anyone tell me what my problem could be? (Note: while inactive with vinyl record, I installed a cassette player(Plusdeck 2c) on my computer and have been recording cassette tapes.

You can't install 1.2.4 and 1.2.6 on your computer at the same time. That's a known unstable condition. Delete both, restart Windows and put 1.2.6 back on.

When I installed the newer version of Audacity, I deleted the older version first. I can hear my turn table recording through my computer earphone jack. So, I know the music is going into the computer. The red meter (input) is flashing when the recording is going on. The track just shows a straight line as the yellow cursor scans across the track.
I am trying to record in stereo format. It seems that Audacity is not picking up the music. Thanks for your response.
