Crashing when trying to change tempo or pitch.

Post by muddle » Wed Mar 18, 2009 7:31 pm

This never used to happen (only up to half an hour ago!) but now when I try to change pitch or tempo, Audacity crashes after I press "OK" and I get the firefox "This program has an error and needs to close" error message. Those effects are essential for the project I'm doing, so I'd give my first born for some sort of idea on what the problem could be? I have tried some of the other effects and they work fine, although I havn't tried all of them to see what does and doesn't work. Theres only so many times I can handle having to boot up the program after crashing before losing my mind.

I'm running Audacity 1.2.6 downloaded directly from Audacity, and I'm on Windows XP, and trying to use these effects on a .aup project file with one mono track, if that's important?

Since you have mentioned Firefox - it may be because of an incompatibility with a Firefox plug-in.
When you want to edit, it is best to shut other applications to avoid such issues (and also to give Audacity as much computer power as your PC is capable of).

It may be worth you trying Audacity 1.3 - it is pretty stable now and has many improvements over the old 1.2 version. (The new stable version Audacity 1.4 is due out soon, based on Audacity 1.3).

Upgrading to the beta seems to have done the trick. Thanks very much for your help! x
