Hey Guys,

When I first installed Audacity 1.3.7, I was running on Windows XP Service Pack 2, but I have recently upgraded to Service Pack 3. Here's my problem: before I upgraded, the recording feature of Audacity was working fine, but now after SP3 is installed, the recorder won't capture any sound from my speakers (i.e. Audio from the Web, or mp3 files etc.) How can I fix this? I've tried to reconfigure the Audio In/Out option in the Preferences, Ive tried uninstalling, then reinstalling Audacity, but nothing works. What do I do?

If you could, please explain the solution in full detail.

I'm puzzled because I run 1.3.7 - and my Microsoft upgrade history shows that I received the upgrade on 13Dec08 on my laptop XP-PRO - and I can still recode streaming audio perfectly ok.

Whether you can record from streaming audio depends entirely upon the combination of soundcard/device driver for soundcard/operating system. Is it possible that you have received upgraded soundcard driver software?

My older desktop PC (XP-HE-SP3) has never been able to record streaming audio via the on-board soundcard - but I can work around that by using my external USB soundcard (Edirol UA-1EX) and looping back the RCA outputs to the RCA inputs.
