Audio File Plays Back Super Fast

After importing an audio file and clicking the play arrow it seems to play the whole song through in a millisecond blip. What's happening and how do I fix it? Thanks!

you are almost certainly trying to import a filetype that audacity does not support. Audacity works with WAV MP3 Ogg and FLAC - - if you have another filetype you will need to convert it first (or play it in an alternative player s/w while recording in Audacity).
