Inserting at a specific point within a track

Post by kdixon » Wed Mar 04, 2009 9:11 pm

Hi Everyone!

I produce a weekly podcast show (http://www.viewfromthecouch.com) and find Audacity does the job nicely, but I have one beef. Just wondering if I'm missing something obvious in the functionality or if there's really no way to do it....

I have the vocals in one track and multiple music tracks in other tracks of their own. When I import some music, I'd love to be able to have it place it within the track, right where I put the cursor. As it stands, if I paste in a track, it places it at the beginning of the timeline, so I either have to generate silence to move it to the spot where I want it to start, or I have to use the time shift tool to slide it down the timeline to the desired start point.

Neither of these options are ideal and they're both somewhat labor-intensive. I seem to remember the beta release allows the user to past at the cursor point, but the potential instability of the beta release worries me as I don't want to be an hour into a project only to have Audacity freeze and cause me to lose everything.

ANY help would be much appreciated as I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious here, but I can't seem to find an answer either in the FAQs or in a general online search.

Cheers!

Kent

Audacity 1.3 is pretty stable now - I've not used 1.2 for a long time.
Audacity 1.2 is virtually obsolete and will be replaced by 1.4 (stable) in the near future. Audacity 1.4 will be based on Audacity 1.3.
