recording for voicemail
I have a recording I'm going to use for a voicemail greeting. The system I'm using it with (Ringcentral.com) says it needs to be in either CCITT u-Law (G711a), 8kHz, 8 bit, mono (recommended) or PCM, 8kHz, 16 bit, mono formats. I'd prefer to do the former since it's recommended but if I need to do the later so be it. I was able to switch to 16-bit but when I bumped it down to 8kHz it becomes very slow. How can I fix this so it works correctly?

Re: recording for voicemail
Okay, I figured out the Project Rate is in the lower left hand corner. What does it mean by PCM?
Re: recording for voicemail
"Pulse Coded Modulation", but you don't need to know that.
Just export it as a (Microsoft) WAV file.
With Audacity 1.3 you can export as u-law. I'm not sure if it is exactly the right format, but u-law is listed in the "Other Uncompressed Formats" as an option for (Microsoft) WAV.
