voice muffled when exporting to mp3

Post by brian32 » Mon Feb 16, 2009 6:16 am

Hi. Using version 1.2.6 on XP.

I'm recording an audio presentation that has background music. When I export to mp3, the person's voice sounds somewhat muffled and the music somewhat the same. But when I export to .wav, the person's voice is clear. I tried exporting to mp3 using ID3v1 and ID3v2, but it didn't fix it. Any ideas? Thanks.

You probably have the MP3 format set to too low a bit rate. 128kbps is generally considered the lowest for good quality music - 160kbps or higher is better. I can't remember exactly where the setting for this is in Audacity 1.2 I think it is something like "Edit menu > Preferences > Export options"
