HI, Did you get an answer to your problem? I am having the same difficulty although I have Windows xp. I would like to know how you solved it. Thanks, Roy

On your desktop (for Windows in the bottom right corner near the clock) you should find a loudspeaker icon from which you can open up either the Windows Mixer, or a custom Sound Card Control Panel. Use that to select and enable your recording source. Note that on some modern machines there is a second icon that holds additional settings for automatic gain control or other recording effects - all effects should be turned off or you will get weird things happen with your recording.
