Naming tracks and recording question

Post by Enjoju » Sun Feb 08, 2009 4:21 am

Hi all,

I have kind of a stupid question, but this is something that's been bugging me about Audacity. Is there any way to create a new track, name it, and then record **on the same track**? Here's what I do: Project Menu--> New audio track (let's call this Track 1)--> Name menu (change name to 'Song 1'), then press record. What happens is that Track Two opens and starts recording, rather than the recording happening for Track 1 like I want. Is there something obvious that I'm missing here? I like to label my tracks first, and I can't figure out how to do this, nor did I find anything about this in the documentation. Really such a minor thing, but something that for some reason makes me not want to use the program :(

Audacity has a lt of little wacky work-arounds.

<<<Is there something obvious that I'm missing here?>>>

Continue to record on the second track and use the Cut and Paste functions later to put the work into the timeline you want. This has the advantage of letting you do simple edits while you cut.

<<<Really such a minor thing, but something that for some reason makes me not want to use the program>>>

I agree. There are a lot of reasons that make me not want to use the program. That silly Save/Export thing for one. Excessive use of exploding graphics on the Macs, etc. Deadly.
