Got audacity with a Crossley LP player with USB connection. I plug it in and open audacity and have played a game of musical chairs figuring out how to get the Windows XP auido settings to record in and playback. First, I could record but not hear it. Now I can hear old sample but can't record. What are the settings I need to get to?? I have a SigmaTel codec set up as record and playback - will that work or do I use the USB Audio Codec.
Help!! It's been 2 weeks of frustration. My 65 yr old mother in law used another system and was up and running in 5 minutes.

Re: ARGH - No sound in, no sound out
Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O"
Set the recording device as the USB one, and the playback device as SigmaTel (you are recording from the USB device and playing back with the SigmaTel sound card).
Set "software playthrough to "on" (selected).
For a more detailed description, see the tutorial (link at top of page).
