Re: Audacity crashes in vista
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3, it is reported to work much better on Vista.

Re: Audacity crashes in vista
I am getting the same exact problem. I'm using Audacity on a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Premium to record live concerts at an Open Mike night I frequent. I'm using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB interface with a couple of Fostex mics, and recording simple two-track stereo files. M-Audio has a Vista driver for this device and it is installed.
It took me a long time to get the sound devices aligned properly in Vista, but I got it to where I was recording. However, every time I hit the "stop" button to stop recording, I get the error message listed above. This happens with shorter files (~5 minutes) as well as longer files (~1 hour).
In some cases, I've been able to salvage the recording by using the Audacity Recovery utility, other times all I get is a loud hum as audio when playing back.
I don't have the laptop in front of me, but I'm pretty sure I already have the latest stable version of Audacity loaded. I will check when I get home from work.
I'd rather not have to retreat back to XP Pro. Thanks for the information available here in this forum; it is greatly appreciated.

No, not the "stable" version - the "beta" version.alpine85 wrote: I don't have the laptop in front of me, but I'm pretty sure I already have the latest stable version of Audacity loaded. I will check when I get home from work.
In spite of the name, the beta version is pretty stable, and on Vista is more stable than the "stable" version.
The developers are close to releasing the 1.4 version, which will be based on Audacity 1.3 and will be the new "stable" version.
