When we open a file to edit it, we only get the straight line, not the wav format or any format that we can do editing in, for voiceovers. What are we doing wrong? Please help!

<<<file to edit it>>>

A few more English words would be good here. Are you trying to open up an AUP file? Is this a performance you captured earlier with your own fingers? Is this something you got from the internet?

Sorry I didn't give more info. This is all very new to me.
I recorded a narration through cubase with a Zoom H4. I can record and play ok. I can't get the right wav format to come up so I can edit the recording, either through cubase or Audacity. Am I recording wrong?

Here's a message thread with a lot of juicy information about using the Zooms.

http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... it=Zoom+H4

A good default for many users is to set Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit, stereo.

Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > Recording > Channels (2-Stereo)
Edit > Preferences > Quality > 44100, 16-bit

Then set the Zoom to the same thing.

This is where I get fuzzy on you since I don't actually have a Zoom. Let me know how you get on.

Oh. One more. Pull down piano2.wav from my web site...

...and put that in Audacity. you should get a picture that looks something like this...
