Transferring LP:s fails

Recording LP's to computer with Audacity doesn't work. I have a quite new Lenco USB turntable and I'm pressing the pink/red button in Audacity to record the LP and save the music. There is just silence when trying to play the presumed saved music.
Please, teach me how to do.

Thank you Waxcylinder for your help. However I've read through pages in your link and I don't know my computer's inbuilt sound card and I don't know how to access this knowledge. I have have printed out a computer profile in Belarc Advisor's program which under the headline "
Multimedia" says "
creative SB Audigy" and furthermore "
USB sound device".
Audacity's Mixer Toolbar's input selector, where do I find this?
Furthermore, I would like to have both options - listen and not listen - when recording.
As you understand of my questions I'm not very good with computers but I'm very happy there are pros.

To select the desired input in Audacity, go to the Edit menu and select "Preferences". When the Preferences window opens, look at the top of the "Audio I/O" tab and you will see two drop down boxes, one for the recording device, and one for the playback device. If your turntable is a USB turntable, then select the USB option for the recording device, and select one of the Creative/SoundBlaster options for the playback device (you may need to experiment a little to see which option works).
To be able to hear the USB turntable while recording, you need to select "software playthrough" in the Audacity Preferences (also on the Audio I/O tab).
