Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Vista: Crash when I press the 'Stop-button'

Post by Pruis » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:50 am

I use Vista 32-bit on laptop.

When I make a recording, it happens that Audacity crashes when pressing the Stop-button. Not always, but very frequent. I searched with Google for this problem, and I only found this website: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 314AAU8YJB

Can anybody tell me how to solve my problem?

Tnx!

I have the same problem with the same equipment, Audacity 1.2.6 on a Vista laptop. When I restart Audacity, it states something to the effect that the unsaved data can be recovered manually, but I haven't yet found where it is or how to do it. Any help out there?

Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3 - it seems to be a lot more stable on Vista than the old 1.2.6 version.
See the Audacity wiki for help with installing : http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS

Indeed, exact the same problem here with the unsaved data can be recovered...

Have you already tried to install Audacity 1.3 and is the problem solved? Now it's to late, I will try tomorrow.

Tnx.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll move on to 1.3 and find out how well it works for me and report back here with my results. I see that I should've searched the forums a little more so thanks for your patience.

This happens to me too. I'd like to hear about how v1.3 works on Vista before I try the download.

Audacity 1.3.x is beta software and so is under development. This means that some releases will inevitably contain some bugs. Having said that, Audacity 1.3 is now in late stages of development and is pretty stable and many Vista users enjoy the extra features and hardware support that 1.3 offers. If you are having problems with Audacity 1.2.6 on Vista, then it is definitely worth trying Audacity 1.3

I've just been trying 1.3.8 (alpha) and it is looking very good indeed with many updates and bug fixes. 1.3.8 beta should be along pretty soon - if you would like e-mail notification of its release you can sign up here: http://audacityteam.org/ (see bottom of that page).

Audacity 1.4 will be the next stable release and will hopefully not be too long coming.

You do not need to uninstall Audacity 1.2.6 in order to install 1.3.x
There are a couple of limitations with having both versions:
1) you can not run them simultaneously - only one version at a time.
2) Audacity 1.3 can open projects that have been saved by Audacity 1.2, but Audacity 1.2 cannot open projects saved by 1.3

Before installing Audacity 1.3, read this page: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS
