Very Slow Recording

Audacity records at incredibly slow speed, and also causes any Internet music to slow right down when Audacity starts. It used to work fine, and I don't think I've changed anything. Any ideas?

It used to work fine before I filled up my hard drive?
My Computer > Right-Click C: > Properties.
No production computer hard drive should be over 90% full. An 80 GB hard drive should never be over 72 GB full. Defragment and error check while you're in there. Audacity will start doing some very strange things is it's forced to work into a badly fragmented hard drive.

Thanks, but it's not that. The drive doesn't need defragmenting and it's only about 65% full. I thik Audacity went nuts about the time I reinstalled Windows XP around a year ago, but I can't see anything I've done wrong. Everything else seems ok.
