and fiddling around with that i downloaded Audacity.1st thing i do is click record and i get ther error message :
error while chcking sound device please check input device settings and project saple rate.
so i google it a couple of times and try all these remedys , even some from theese forums, but still to no avail.

im using windows vista on a dell inspiron 530s i think ?
like i said im not that computer literate.ive used a driver detective (poorly) and it said there was nothing wrong wh the realtek ditriver and am really up shit creek.
bit of a novice when it comes to this sort of thing and would greatly apprecieate any help.
