I have recorded off line in, microphone and USB input, but what settings do i need to record stuff that I can hear off the internet but 1.2.6 does not (will not?) record?

That can be done using obscure Windows Sound Panel settings.
Windows Control Panel

There are some Windows machines out there now that have been purposefully made so they will not record from the internet no matter what you adjust. All Macs are in this camp, too.
I use Total Recorder on Windows and WireTap on the Mac. Both will record anything going through the computer.

I solved this problem.
I have a USB turntable that allows an input line, like from a tape player. If I can listen to a signal from the internet, I can plug a 1/8" stereo cable into the earphone output, plug the other end it into the turntable input, take the signal back in to the computer thru the USB port. I have to turn off the "allow playback" to avoid echoes. Voila!

That's the desperation method.
The purists don't like doing that because it puts the sound through two digital conversions, not counting anything that might have happened at the original digitizer plus anything you do to play it back.
For a lot of people it's OK, but you may find that the sound will fall apart if you try to do effects.
