Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install

Post by maverickprod » Thu Jan 22, 2009 10:24 pm

Every time I try to install the LAME MP3 Encoder using kinks on the Audacity site and others listed here I always get the same reply “We were unable to locate the file to download” Can anyone suggest what might be going on here? One reply said the server might be busy but I have been trying this all day. Any help would be welcomed. Sorry but I am not a computer expert but I am trying to learn

They are probably correct, or there may have been a temporary server problem. Try using the links from the Audacity page again today. If it still fails, please post exactly which links you are using so that we can check it out.

Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install

Post by salesmanbryant » Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:10 pm

I am having a hard time installing LAME MP3 as well - I'm running Vista. I believe I've followed the instructions carefully but don't think the file is "unzipping". When I click on lame_enc.dll (which shows it is only 185KB) the program will not allow me to save it as in the Audacity directory. When I go to open it, it opens Audacity but list libmp3lame.dylib as a "project". Can anyone help?

I think you may have downloaded the wrong file.
The Windows zip file contains a file called "lame_enc.dll" and that is the file that you need.

Thanks for the reply. Here are the steps I've taken
I went to the following web site ....
http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/
then I clicked on...
For Audacity on Windows:
libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip
This brought me to a "File Download' window
It asks if I want to "Save" or "Open" "libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip" ...
So I click "Save"
This brings me to a "Save As" window
From this point I have tried to "save" and "open" on different occasions.
Either way I end up with a "Project" called "lame_enc" opened in the Audacity program.
Where am I going wrong?

There should be a default file name "libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip"
If not, enter libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip as the file name and allow the file download to complete. (Your Desktop is probably a good download location so that you can easily find the file).

When download is complete, Right click on the file and I think that you should have an option to "Extract" (or unpack?) the contents (I'm not on Windows at the moment - I'll check this step later today).

Extract the zip file to your desktop and folder will appear. Open th folder in Windows Explorer and copy the lame_enc.dll file into your Audacity Programs folder (in C:Program Filesaudacity...)

'Could not open mp3 encoding library'

Post by Bottle of Dog » Wed Mar 11, 2009 8:31 pm

Good evening All,
I seem to be having the same problem as a great many others. I have tried all downloading and unzipping variations at my disposal, and all to no avail.

I have also tried the unzipped file http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/lame_enc.dll

I have saved it in Audacity and various other locations too.

The only message I get when following the instructions is shown above.

I am using Win98SE and Audacity 1.2.6

I am concerned that the 'find lame_enc.dll' dialogue shows three file types, All Files, All dlls and lame-enc only. I have to look at All Files in order to find the correct file.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Chris
