Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Audacity and Roland Edirol UA-1EX

Post by wickerbasket » Thu Jan 22, 2009 6:27 pm

Just got a Roland Edirol UA-1EX USB Audio interface, so that I can record analog into Audacity.

I tried out the stable Audacity on some mp3s and it worked great.

I then purchased the interface and have installed everything for the interface according to the owner's manual. However, when I send the audio signal after pressing record in Audacity, I get nothing. There is no variation in waveform visually, and I hear nothing on playback. When I am monitoring via the headphone jack on the interface, I can hear my signal loud and clear. I've gone under the preferences in the Edit tab and assigned my input correctly, but I might be missing a step.

Everything I've seen online suggests that the two are compatible.
What do I need to know about having something like that work with Audacity?

Please help.

"Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O tab"

What options are available for Recording and Playback devices?
What options do you have selected?

My UA-1EX works happily on both my PCs (desktop and laptop) on Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x.

Just a thought, you have turned up the gain control on the UA-1EX, right?

Yes the gain is up, waxc.

And on the Audion I/O tab:

For both Playback and Recording options: Microsoft Sound Mapper- output, Realtek AC97 Audio, EDIROL UA-1EX
For both I have selected: EDIROL UA-1EX

For Channels I have: 2 (stereo)

Thanks for replying back about this... :D

wax c, since yours works would you mind sharing your set up details with me, so I can try the same selected fields? By this I mean any fields you had to change beside the default settings to get yours to work.

p.s. I am using XP if that matters at all. From what I've read, that seems to be the most complimentary format.

I have Audacity set to 2-Channels (stereo) 44.1kHz 32-bit floating. I record and edit at 32-bit to give me greater editing headroom, but then use Audacity to downsample to 16-bit 44.1kHz (the Red Book CD standard) on exporting production files to WAV.

Th dip switches on my Edirol reading left to right are set thus.
1 & 2 down => 44.1kHz
3 down (96kHz playback mode)
4 up - monitor audio set to Auto
5 down - analog (though I flick this up when using digital input from my minidisc deck)

And on the fron the Advanced Driver switch is switched to Off

Hope this helps and gets you working,

WC
