Exporting Music

I have Windows Vista but it was the same with my windows xp. When I export my music whether it's wav or mp3 it saves it to my desktop. Then I can't remove that version from the desktop or it deletes it. I can put it in media player or itunes but can't take it off my desktop which is getting pretty full. Can I export it directly into itunes or at least media player? How?

iTunes > File > Add To Library > Desktop > music.mp3.

There is a setting in iTunes preferences that makes it produce a digital copy of your work inside iTunes (default iTunes will not do that). Then delete your desktop copy.

I can imagine it's the same in Windows Media. I believe you can't change Windows Media format--it's always WMA, but you can change iTunes import characteristics. My favorite is AAC-256, but you can force iTunes to save music in the original uncompressed, perfect WAV or AIFF format. You would want to do that if your destination is a Music CD.
