background buzz

I am trying to transfer my linguaphone spanish course from tape to CD. When I try playing back the recording there is a background buzz behind the voices. Any idea how I stop this. I am on Windows Vista and the lead is running from the headphone socket on the stereo to the blue socket in the back of the PC. :?

I have solved it already, I think the jack hadn't been pushed in fully as I have done it again and it appears to be fine now. :D
