No Mic Icon

I downloaded Audacity and I am trying to do voice recordings but it does not have the microphone icon for me to click on. I have new toshiba laptop with a built in microphone. Is it not working because it is an internal microphone? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That should have worked. Can you record the built-in microphone in Windows Sound Recorder?

Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment

You may need to reset the Windows Settings to deal with your microphone. Do you run any VOIP, Skype, or IP telephone applications? They can significantly scramble Windows settings.

Are you wanting to record from the internal microphone or an external microphone?

I presume you are using Vista?
There's a special section in the Audacity wiki all about using Vista: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS
