distorted recording

Recording from turntable sound good coming from speakers while recording but on playback sounds similar to bad stretched vhs tape.Is this due to on-board realtek sound card or what?
Possibly, possibly not.
Could you describe your setup so that we have a clear mental picture of exactly what you are doing.
