Not Recording

I had an older version of Audacity from a couple of years ago that worked great. When I just downloaded the version 1.2.6, it no longer records through my speakers. I tried changing all kinds of things and nothing worked. So, I downloaded the beta version to see if it would work. Nothing. Can someone please help get Audacity working? I also downloaded that LAME dll.

I will add this, I guess it is recording something. But the waves are so so small you can barely see them and you can't hear it unless you put your ear right up to the speaker. Like I said, it worked perfectly before the download.

Thanks.

Try amplifying your recording. Click the left hand panel of your recording to highlight it. Click Effect on the information bar at the top of the screen. Scrollt to Amplify. Click that and adjust the amount you need checking after each adjustment. Also have you adjusted the preferences as per the tutorials.

<<<1.2.6 ... no longer records through my speakers.>>>

You mean record anything the computer plays, like internet audio? That's 'What You Hear' or 'Stereo Mix' and you select that in the Windows Control Panels.

If you do have some sound and it's amazingly low, not just very low, you are probably listening to and recording the electrical leakage in your sound card. All multi-channel sound systems have leakage. The makers try to keep cross channel leakage very low.
