STEREO
Hi,
1) Version 1.2.6
2) Vista home
3) Can't record in stereo. I/O preferences is set on 2 (stereo).
All the other setting are double checked and verified.
But there is only 1 channel recording.
I work with an AKAI (ATT10U) turntable with USB, connected to my
laptop ( Packard Bell - easynote SB 86)..
I checked all the setting in the tutorials, also in the forum(s) but
can't find a solution. Can you help me please.

Re: STEREO
Does the turntable work in Windows Sound Recorder?
Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment
I'm guessing no. Did you save your turntable receipts?

Hi,
Windows recorder works but again only one
channel is comming trough. Sorry for my poor english
but what do you mean with : "Did you save your turntable receipts?".
When I record with audacity I can see 2 channels but they are
the same ( symetric ) and only the left channel is heard ! I play
the 2channels, set the left channel on still ( or solo ) it is the
same as the right channel.
Tnx for your reply.

Re: STEREO
What Koz means do you still have the paperwork that confirms tour purchase of the turntable, as it looks as though the turntable is broken and needs to be returned to the shop you bought it from or the manufacturer (depending on consumer law in your country). You should either be seeking your money back - or a new replacement that works.geekay wrote: but what do you mean with : "Did you save your turntable receipts?".
And your English is fine Geekay - at least as understandable as some of the native speakers who post on the forum ...

Re: STEREO
Hi again,
turntable seems ok, it's new ( a gift for Christmas ).
Could it be that one of the channels ( in the turntable head ) only gives
1 channel trough the USB cable to my laptop ? However I can hear the sound
from my disk properly wenn I hold my ear close to the turntabe ? On this TT there
is also a line out connection ( 2 cables red and white ) and a button to switch
between Phono and line.
???
Tnx for the compliment about my english...

Re: STEREO
Yes that's quite possible - check that the four leads from the cartridge to the headshell are all connected properly (take care, the pins are fragile) - and that the headshell is fully screwed home (but take care not to overtighten). Also check the USB connection, gently wiggle the USB plag in its socket on your laptop, amd/or try another USB socketgeekay wrote: Could it be that one of the channels ( in the turntable head ) only gives 1 channel trough the USB cable to my laptop ?
That is likely to just be the physical resonance in the stylus/cartridge assemblygeekay wrote:However I can hear the sound from my disk properly wenn I hold my ear close to the turntabe ?
Do you have a hi-fi or mini/mini sound system with an AUX in or a phono in? If so connect the deck to the unit and test it. If you get stereo there, then the problem is with the USB connnection or the USB services in your TT.geekay wrote: On this TT there is also a line out connection ( 2 cables red and white ) and a button to switch between Phono and line.

Re: STEREO
Hello again,
tnx for quick reply.
I did what you told me to do.
Connected my turntable to my mini-hifi and the
stereo channels where there in full quality.
I replaced the USB cable to my pc.
Same result as before : audacity records
1 audio channel and divided in 2 channels ( symetric )
as before. I m getting depressif, what can I do more
to get the 2 right channels ?
In my view the turntable is ok ( Stereo on mi hifi device )
The cable is also ok !
I m back tomorrow 11 am ( Go to work now )....
greets and tia

Re: STEREO
Is this similar what you are seeing? If so, then that is s sing;e Audacity "Track" with stereo pair. The two stereo channels look very similar in tis case as this is a brief recording from talk radio, it is still stereo though - but the two channels look very similar as it is a single speaker central to the microphones.geekay wrote: 1 audio channel and divided in 2 channels ( symetric )

A short recording of classical music follows Here the two channels look similar - but if you examine them closely you will see thay are slightly different - a true stereo pair in a single Audacity track. Enlarging the tracks (click and drag the track window down) as I have done shows up the differences more - as will zooming in.
Is this what you mean by "symmetric", is this what you are getting? If so then you are recording in stereo.

Re: STEREO
Hello,
tnx 4 quick reply.
I understand what you mean. But the problem is that
I only can record 1 stereo channel ( On Audacyty visual in 2 channels ).
The LP I want to record is stereo in witch the vocals and instrumentals
are for 99 % separated. On my hi-fi device I can ( with the balance button )
choose to hear or the vocals, or the instrumentals.
Audacity gives me only the instrumentals on both channels. When I playback each channel
apart, I hear only the instruments. I'm shure I set the right settings but maybee....
So I ll join an attachment with my settings.

Re: STEREO
It's sounding like the USB services in your TT may be at fault.
Since your RCA outputs deliver proper stereo to your mini hi-fi, you could try commecting these RCA leads to the line-in (NOT the mic in on your PC - as you are working with a laptop you may not have a line in socket). You will need an RCA pair to 3.5mm mini-jack TRS plug lead to connect to the PC. This will use the soundcard in your laptop rather then the one embedded in your TT.
