Bump-bump-bump

I keep getting a "bump-bump-bump" sound after I have recorded my voice. The meter bar never jumps past -12 while I am recording. What's up?

I'm split between two possibilities........OK, Heads it is. You are recording through a sound system that has auto voice processing and auto echo cancellation consistent with corporate video or audio conferencing (which Windows tends to do well).

Dig in the instructions or sound panels and turn all that stuff off--unless you need them to do conferencing.

The other possibility is a complete shot in the dark. Tell me all about your sound system. Pretend I'm trying to buy one exactly like yours. Microphone? Model numbers?

Remember Willard Scott on NBC's Today Show? He was a complete trip on the air but nothing like he was off. He once told the audio operator before a show, "You know what you can do with your rectal microphone..."

Thanks for responding Koz,
I'm using an Audio-Technica 2020USB mic with a separate pop filter. I was using a logitech mic with no pop filter before and didn't seem to be having any problems, just a cheap sound.

You an get that kind of thing if the USB connection is faulty or dirty. Can you try a different connection? Also, does it work OK in Windows Sound Recorder?

Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment

Also, Audacity may be trying to record in a format that the microphone doesn't fully support.

Not strictly related, but just got my Samson C03U USB mike and made some recordings with it set at factory settings using no supplied software and it works fine. Also used a pop filter.

Hi Koz,
I plugged the USB cable into the other port (I'm guessing it is port #2) and the bump bump seems to have gone away. I'm still keeping my reciept for the AT2020usb just in case. Could I have gotten a better mic for the same price?
Thanks for your help!
