Error message while attempting to record

Post by charlie » Sat Jan 03, 2009 10:11 pm

Please forgive me if I'm being stupid / haven't found the relevant help topic but I'm trying to convert cassette tape music to computer so I'm following the "Steps" at this link: http://www.wikihow.com/Transfer-Cassett ... o-Computer . However, when i press "Record" in step 7, I get this message: "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate."

How do I rectify this error message? I have no idea where the input device settings are nor where the project sample rate is!

Further apologies if I'm in the wrong forum: I don't know whether my Audacity is stable or unstable. I downloaded Audacity 1.2.6 for Vista from this link: http://audacityteam.org/download/windows and, as far as I know, it downloaded fully and correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice you guys can offer me.

Cheers,
Charlie

In the "Edit" menu, select "Preferences" then look in the "Audio I/O" tab for the playback/recording devices and look in the "Quality" tab for the default sample rate.

If you are using Vista you need to first ensure that you have a recording device available - see here:
