I am using Windows XP.

I received an Innovative Technology USB turntable recently. The first time I used the turntable I had no problems recording a vinyl disk. When I tried to export the recording as an MP3 file I was instructed to download the necessary file which I did.

Now when I try to record I see a straight line. I have followed the instruction in the user's manual and have made the following settings:
Line In, SoundMAX Digital Audio selected as both Sound Play back and Sound Recording default devices. Line volume is set on high.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Audacity from the disk that came with the turntable, but I still get a flat line when I press the record button.

What can I do to obtain the fluctuant wave?

You want to set the recording device to the turntable (because that is what you are recording from) and the playback device to your inbuilt sound device (presumably SoundMax). I understand some turntables made by this company are reported as "AK5371" so if you don't see "USB audio codec" or similar, look for "AK5371".

Thanks for your help.

I found that my problem was a faulty USB connection which was not recognizing the turntable. I have two USB connections on my monitor and they both failed.

Using a different connection has solved the problem.
