Hi there:

I just imported 4 MP# files into Audacity after ripping them and off a CD and putting them through a Switch program to convert to MP3s. I then exported as MP3 to my desktop. When I played the resulting file, it seems that all the tracks overlaid on the first. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I just want to combine the tracks in a string one after each other so I can use them as a soundtrack to a slide show. Thanks.

Open Audacity, you shoul see the 4 tracks one above the other, top left time shift tool, that's the arrow with 2 heads, clik the second track and drag it to the end of the first track, same with track 3 & 4 so you end up with one continuous string. Export as MP3 and that's it.

O.K. I tried that, but the timeshift tool won't allow me to drag to the track above. It only slides the track I'm on to the right or left. I'm not sure I'm grabbing it properly. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

O.K....I just figured this out. A major leap for me. I now know that I'm moving the track along a timeline that is continuous from right to left across the whole screen. So I basically place the starting point of the 2nd track to the end of the first track right above it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction in this discovery process.

You will find later this year when 1.4 is finally released that this alignment will be made much easier in 1.4 Audacity (you can try it now in 1.3.6).

The track ends snap to each other when close and show a vertical yellow line to indicate that. You can of course override this if you actually want the tracks to overlap (for a cross-fade say).
