hello, I've re-installed audacity as I've just had my sound and video card replaced by Dell. after this audacity opened up but the effects and analyse are greyed out and the different types of recording format [mps, wav,"what u hear" etc] had disappeared altogether. I re-installed the plug-ins and lame dll seemed ok but no joy regarding these other things.

I've spent some time going through the fao and manual but can't seem to find an answer to my particular issue. the sound card is the same as the previous one, from what I could gather from the engineer.

Does your new sound card work with other programs (for example, can you record with Windows Sound Recorder?)

If that's all OK, go into Audacity Preferences from the Edit menu. If Windows Sound Recorder works, then set the recording and playback devices in Audacity to "Microsoft Sound Mapper".
