Where is this HELP you refer to?
I have a problem and need answers but all I can get is referred to a forum or to send an e-mail that will not get a response?
What kind of help is any of this?
I purchased a turntable and it came with Audacity. It also came with an instruction book, if that is what you choose to call it. The instructions are so poor. They do not address any problems and they do not offer any help. I came to this site looking for assistance and all I can do is discuss my problem with others having the same problem? This is not help, this is commiseration. I need help!

Re: HELP ??
It's the "free" sort.lakrett wrote:What kind of help is any of this?
None of us gets paid - Audacity is free software that is developed and supported by volunteers.
The forum is very busy, with dozens of new questions each day - anyone that is able and willing to help out their fellow Audacity users are most welcome to do so.
The main documentation for Audacity 1.2.x is on the main Audacity web site:
http://audacityteam.org/help/
For Audacity 1.3.x (and the soon to be released Audacity 1.4) the manual is here:
http://audacityteam.org/manual/index.ph ... =Main_Page
(the 1.4 manual is not yet complete - volunteers to help finish it are most welcome).
There is additional information on the Audacity wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... _Home_Page
There are some very useful tips that everyone should read (my top recommendation)
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tips
Also, several tutorials here:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tutorials
There is also a "search" feature in the top right corner of the forum) for searching the forum - it's not a particularly good search, but can sometimes find the goods.
There is also "Google" which can help people to find information.
If you have any specific questions, you will usually find people on this forum willing to help.

Re: HELP ??
Thank you. i have been to those places and I still don't get it. I am not a computer expert only a beginner.
I understand the free part from your side but I paid for the equipment and that is how I got the software and when I call the number on the instruction book I am referred to this site. I don't know who provides the book but it is lacking complete instructions.
I am having problems exporting MP3. I read the information given to another on this site and I don't understand what to do? I transported 2 albums and it just stopped working?

Re: HELP ??
That's rather cheeky isn't it - I doubt that they even make a donation to Audacity.lakrett wrote:I understand the free part from your side but I paid for the equipment and that is how I got the software and when I call the number on the instruction book I am referred to this site.
Have you installed LAME?lakrett wrote:I am having problems exporting MP3
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3
LAME is required for Exporting MP3 files, but not for WAV files. Have you tried exporting your audio in WAV format? Dos that work?
There is a tutorial about transfering records to your computer here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... uter_or_CD
You may find it a bit heavy going as it covers various types of equipment, various operating systems and various versions of Audacity, but it is quite thorough.
It is a lot easier to answer very specific questions rather than general ones, so if you get stuck, try to give a good description of each step of what you are doing, what equipment you are using, and so on.
Good luck.

I forgot about these tutorials - they are specifically about Audacity 1.2.x and may be a bit easier to follow:
