Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

How do I get Audacity to stop recording all computer sounds!

Post by TitaniumKranium » Mon Dec 29, 2008 3:48 am

Everytime I want to record something, any sound made by my computer is recording. How do I get it to stop this? I wanna be able to listen to one track and record another on top of it without the first track being recorded as well.

Your computer is recording "Stereo Mix" or "What You Hear" and probably shouldn't be. That setting sends the speaker signals back to Audacity. Windows machines are cursed with infinite variety of sound pathways.
