In Audacity "Save" creates Audacity Projects which are NOT audio files.
To create an audio file you must use one of the "Export" functions (from the file menu).
Check out the Tutorials and Tips in the wiki (link at top of the page) for lots of useful information about how to use Audacity.

Yes, Audacity doesn't save audio files, it Exports them, but the question is worded oddly enough for me to ask if you had MP3 files that played at the wrong speed or had some other damage?

To change the playing speed of some music.
1) Open Audacity
2) Import the music file (must be in a supported format such as WAV).
3) Select the entire track and apply the "Change Speed" effect.
4) Export as WAV (or any other supported format).
