I have a Korg X50, and I'm using the USB port to connect it to my computer. Is there any way to make Audacity recognize the synthesizer and record it? Thanks...

Audacity is a complete slave to the computer sound services. Chances are, if Windows Sound Recorder can see the show, Audacity will be able to see it, too.

Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment

The USB connector on the Korg is NOT and audio connector, it is a midi connector.
The midi connector will allow communication of midi data between the Korg and midi programs on your computer (for example software synths and midi sequencers). It does not send or receive audio through the USB connection.

To record your Korg, you will need a lead that can connect an audio output from the Korg to a "Line-in" connection on your computer.

If your computer is a laptop, you may need to use an external sound card as many laptops do not have a "line in" socket.
Note that a Line-in socket is not the same as a microphone socket. Microphone sockets are usually mono, and are too sensitive for connecting the Korg. Some laptops have audio inputs that can be set as either "microphone" or "line" - you will need to consult your manual for that.

Hi You should be able to use your USB connection provided the Korg end is a line out connection.
Switch on your computer, switch on the Korg then plug in the USB, the computer should recognise it (Double tone). If it doesn't make a sound, go to control panel, assuming you are using XP???, if Vista, you need someone else. If XP, open sounds & audio devices, Click audio tab, scroll down to sound recording & check if your usb is recognised. If it is highlight it, click apply & try again to record. If still no joy, go to audacity, click edit, scroll to preferences, on the first tab make sure usb is shown under recording. Try again now. If still no joy I'm lost.

That is not correct stearman65. The USB connector on a Korg X50 is a MIDI interface and not an audio interface.
The X50 also provides a USB connector that lets you establish MIDI connections with your computer using a single cable

Can someone point me at the instructions for adding attachments to a post, when I try the browse button in upload attachments it doesn't browse.

The forum tends to not accept attachments. The servers aren't all that big. I do it by uploading the sound or picture to my web site and then point to it in the forum.

stearman65, I hate to dampen your enthusiasm, but suggesting that it is possible to record a Korg X50 synthesizer through its USB connector is incorrect and will only confuse Jonny El.

I quote from the X50 manual (page 14)
The USB connector of the X50 is only able to
transmit and receive MIDI data.

To record the X50 in Audacity it is necessary to connect the X50 as described in my first reply.

If that is the case, why is there an upload attachment tab on the Options section, or is it just for administrators???
