Re: Problem with amr files
AMR are compressed cellphone sound files. I would be very surprised if Audacity had any idea what they were. Since Audacity has no idea how to manage them, it plays them uncompressed. So the difference between the expected show duration and the audio playback is the compression. A five second show that plays like a chipmunk in one second has 5 to 1 compression.
You might try Audacity 1.3. You can install 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you don't try to use them both at once.

Re: Problem with amr files
You surprised me cuz earlier it works with audacity without any problems... I tried to load amr files to audacity 1.3 and a pop-up appeared: "Audacity recognized the type of the file, but was unable to import it" Okay, I give up. I'll try something else. Thanks for help kozikowski:)
Re: Problem with amr files
If you can convert the AMR file to WAV, then you will be able to edit the WAV file in Audacity.

You can get a AMR to WAV converter here - http://www.miksoft.net/mobileAMRconverter.htm
Seems to work with my .amr files and is free. Audacity loads the resultant wavs.
