<<<extend a 10 second audio file>>>
Audacity will act funny if it can't figure out what the original audio file type was. Not all internet audio files are MP3 and if you got one of the others by accident, Audacity 1.2 will edit into a mess and then fail to export. I understand Audacity 1.3 warns you that there are storm clouds ahead, but 1.2 has no warnings. It just lets you wade in over your head and drown.
I bet if you download and loop either of these two short MP3 files and then export, it works just fine.

You can have both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time.
