Audacity Plugin Trouble?

Post by mrmusicsnob » Tue Dec 16, 2008 5:27 pm

Hi. I have installed Audacity 1.2.6, along with several VSTs, and the vst enabler. I have followed the directions for installing the vst bridge, and now Audacity will not run as long as vst_bridge.dll is in the plugins folder. I have read about other who have the same problem, but is there a fix for this? Thanks to all.

The problem with VST effects is that just one incompatible effect anywhere on you computer can completely mess things up for Audacity.

The solutions are either:

1) Remove all VST effects from your computer, then add them back one at a time so that you can identify which one(s) are causing the problem.

2) Remove the VST bridge and just use the Nyquist and LADSPA plug-ins with Audacity. If you have other audio software that use VST plug-ins, then you can still use their VST effects.

I would recommend the second option as 9a) Audacity support for VST is rather limited, and (b) there are a lot of very good Nyquist and LADSPA plug-ins that are freely available without messing up Audacity (and (c) this is a much easier option).

Hey thanks a bunch. I had already uninstalled 1.2.6 and deleted every folder related to it, including the Steinberg and VST folders. I installed the 1.3 Beta and downloaded the vst bridge zip instead of the exe, and it worked fine. I started adding the vst's back, one at a time. I got through that I expect to need, and stopped there. I'll add more as they are needed. Thank you very much for your help.

There's some information about VST effects in the Audacity wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... T_Plug-ins
