Audacity Forum

I'm one of those guys who uses something til it self-destructs or is so out-of-date it's obsolete. I had a 4 track tape deck I was using as an interface to my computer with Audacity and was getting real fine results. One of the boards burned up and I had to find a less expensive interface (songwriting is a hobby). I bought an Alesis IO/2 interface. It has it's own software program (Cubase), but I WANT MY AUDACITY. Audacity is so user friendly!!! And I am happy with the results.

With the tape deck, I was simply using left and right outputs to a stereo mini-pin into the line In on the computer. The new interface uses USB, and I have a new computer (new to me) that accomodates that, with a Windows XP operating system. The source choice for Audacity only offers the "line in" for external input (as far as I can see). I am wondering if I can get it to recognize the USB input?

If Cubase runs, then the sound is inside your machine and you need to tell Audacity where it is.

That means you will be going into the Windows Sound Control Panels.

You can use Audacity as a diagnostic tool. Launch Audacity and click once inside the red record meters. they will wake up and monitor the input sound without you going into record.

If nothing works, you can capture in Cubase and edit in Audacity.
