Newbee w/ a question

New user here and I have a question concerning recording LP’s w/ my Numark turntable and the Audacity 1.4 software that came w/ it. First I would like to say that I have installed the software and triple checked it against the user’s manual. My problem is that when I record an LP it seems to record the lead guitar/melody track at only a fraction of the volume. It does seem to be recording in stereo it’s just that the track is barely noticeable when listening to it. I only have this problem while recording; if I am listening to my LP’s through my stereo I can hear everything perfectly. How can I get this situation rectified? I am needing to get some stuff recorded for a Christmas present so I would appreciate any help and information anyone can give me. Thanks!

Start off reading these articles from the Wiki - if those don't help then do post back.

UPDATE: Also I assume that you probably mean Audacity 1.2.4 - if so then you at the least upload 1.2.6 from here: http://audacityteam.org/ (and later when you get more experience you can try the Beta 1.3.x)
