I posted this reply to another query, it may help you.
Hi Oshkash
Try Control panel, sounds and audio devices, click the audio tab, click the drop down arrow alongside sound recording and see if your input devise is listed, if it is click on it and click apply, then try again.

got it.

Edit > Preferences". On the "Audio I/O" tab, select "AK5371" as the recording device.

I had the same problem with a tape deck. Audacity worked fine for 5 days, then CODEC disappeared. Tried to bypass with RCA to mic jack on computer, but could control the recording volume. The below exceprt from the Audacity webiste worked for me. Got me recording again... The full link is http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ce_Drivers

Good luck!

Extra help for Windows users

All Windows users are strongly recommended to try updating their drivers via Device Manager in the first instance, before looking for drivers on the internet.

To access Device Manager on Vista with its default view: click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance, then scroll down and click on Device Manager. With Vista "Classic View", there is a direct link to Device Manager in the Control Panel.

To access Device Manager on XP and earlier, click Start > (Settings) > Control Panel > System, click on the Hardware tab, then on the "Device Manager" button on the Device Manager panel.

Then expand "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" by clicking on the + sign, right-click over the sound device and click "update driver". "
