my recording plays great in windows media player, but i can't burn it to cd. i get an error message - "cannot detect length of file". The length shows in audacity but is not exported (wav) to media player. please, how do i fix it? playing the track first doesn't help, although it does show the length whilst it's playing. Am i able to add the length in audacity before exporting ?

Is your music WAV file in 44100, 16-bit Stereo? Audacity wakes up from First Birthday in 44100, 32-Floating, Stereo, and some programs have no idea what that is.

Thanks for replying Koz. Yes, the wav file is in that format. Have spent all day looking for a fix. The recording is from a vinyl record if that makes any difference.

Make sure your Audacity Preferences are set for 44100, 16-bit, stereo. Open up the music file and export it again. WAV files don't get damaged when you do that and it might clear up your problem. Make sure all the information to the left of the timeline is what you expect.

One more trick. Pull down either of these short WAV files and see if they work.
