Recording on Gateway Vista Notebook

My audio card is a Sigma Tel and the only way to record is through the built in microphone. I don't have "line in" or "stereo in" choices for recording streaming audio as I do on my XP desktop. Got any suggestions? I have been unable to get Audacity to work on my Gateway Vista laptop.

People have all sorts of trouble with Vista, hopefully they've got you covered there already.
