Burned cd has no sound on standalone cd player

Post by mjdoswell » Mon Dec 01, 2008 1:25 am

I've been a long time coming to this place where I find where to post a message on this website. It was harder than figuring out Audacity 1.2.6 into Windows Vista. I did that and now I'm finally doing this. My question is this-the CD created from Audacity will play in my computer but has no sound in my standalone cd player or my portable cd player. Could someone please tell me why? I exported it in stereo at 16-bit 44.1KHZ like the instructions said and the blank cds are music cds.

If you have used a CD-RW ( Re-Writable ) then that often happens on certain CD players, in particular older ones ( I have no idea why). Try using a write only CD and see if that works.
I just read you message to Bonnie and I'm hoping you can give me some help too. It would be greatly appreciated. I'm not getting any sound from my burned cds either on my standalone cd player or my portable cd player,it plays in the computer fine. I recorded in stereo, exported in WAV to Vista media player, burned as audio cd on a music cd. There were three files created during the recording and export process, an .aup, a _data and a file identified with a big music note on it (that's the one I burned). Did I do the right thing? And if I didn't could you tell me what I did wrong. Thank you.
The WAV is what you need for burning - the .aup file, the folder and the little .au files are Audacity's internal projevt format and are useless for a production music file. See this page on the Wiki: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... o_burn_CDs
I've been reading further. I recorded and exported my music all as one file. So could this be the problem? And if I use label selection do I do that before or after I click record? And then hit the stop button between each record change. Thank-you.
First of all, I'd like to thank everybody for their help and suggestions. I now have burned cd sound. I first changed the blank audio cd brand from Maxell to Memorex. I burned the file with and without tracks on the Memorex discs using Windows Media Player. Still no sound. I then burned the files onto Memorex discs using Roxio burn software, that's when I got sound. And I'm totally satisfied with the sound, it's great. Thank-you again everybody, I appreciate your help.

Glad we got you working ...

I myself use TDK CD-R80s all the time - I have made only 2 coasters/beermats out of c. 300 used

Just one other thing to remember about those CDs you make - they are phtosensitive, that's how they get "burned" in the first place - so do make sure you keep them out of direct sunlight. (As a simple experiment - take a duff one that you tried to burn, tape a piece of paper on part of the disc, leave it lying in the sun for a few days - and then peel the paper off. You should easily see where the paper has been).
