Runtime Error on Install

This is a new one on me. I have used Audacity for a few years now with no problems. I recently had to re-install Audacity and now when I install and try to run I get the following popup window:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:Program FilesAudacityaudacity.exe
abnormal program termination

What's causing this and how can I fix it? I am in the middle of finishing the final mix of an album that has to be completed ASAP! I have never had this problem before. I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail.

I am running WinXP Pro and Audacity 1.2.6

I am in panic mode here. HELP!!

Tnx,
dB

"Uninstalling" Audacity does not remove Audacities Preferences, so there is no "clean uninstall" until you manually remove Audacities preferences. Instructions for doing so are here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... references

Thanks for the tip, but I probably should have mentioned that I already did all of that. Didn't work. This problem occurred AFTER I did all of this and re-installing doesn't help. That is why I am so confused by the runtime error.

Strange - can you do a system restore to a time when Audacity was working, and then reinstall?
