I installed audacity several times. I have looked through the forums. When I click on any one of my sound files they play back and what appears to by a high rate of speed. Like in 1/2 second. The song is there (I guess) but it squished or something.
I have used audacity before without a problem.
What am I missing.
fast playback?

Re: fast playback?
You are almost certainly trying to Open or Import a filetype that Audacity doesn't recognize. Audacity has a nasty habit of trying to be "helpful" and play non-recognized filetypes anyway (giving you a brief chipmunk squawk), without giving you an sensible error message or warning. IIRC this is fixed in 1.3.x.
Audacity supports WAV, MP3 and Ogg (and FLAC in 1.3.x). You need to ascertain the true nature of your filetype and then find a converter (an easy bit of googling will find one for you - no heavy lifting required) - and then convert you music file to one of the supported filetypes, preferrably WAV.
The most common cause of this is trying to import an iTunes music file which is in Apples's AAC format.

Re: fast playback?
I have the same issue... but when i record the songs they play back fine no issues at all, its only when i export them as Mp3's and then try to re-open the file later to listen to that its way too fast and sounds like chimpmunks!
Anyone have any idea's why? Anyone know how to save it at the correct speed?
Thanks!!

Re: fast playback?
See this thread: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic ... 194#p29194 where Gale Andrews, one of the developeres, explains that there appears to be a problem with the latest release of LAME and a link to where you can download an earlier version of LAME.
A workaround would be to export as WAV and then use an external converter to make the MP3 (even iTunes can be set up to do this for you).
