no stereo

I used to have Audacity on my system and I had to ask the forum how to get it to record in stereo. I got the answer and everything was great for about 2 years. Then my old (5 years)hardware crashed and I had to replace my mobo, chip, memory and hard drive. I downloaded Audacity again, and I am back to my old problem of it only recording in mono. I remember that it was just a simple setting to fix this problem, but I can't seem to remember exactly what it was or find it on my own. Please help!!
