Windows XP Pro SP3 Stream Audio Recording
Audacity latest version and beta version recorder will not record Internet broadcast or streamline audio through my speakers (sound card) with Windows XP Pro SP3 installed. I have tried recording the same on several XP Pro SP3 computers in my home and it does not work on any of them == it records the stream, but the playback is almost silent and heavily distorted. These same Audacity versions do work with Windows XP Home and Pro SP2 and earlier XP versions on all tested computers in my home. I really need the program working on my personal XP Pro SP3 computer. Does anybody know anything about this problem or have a fix or work around for XP Pro SP3? Note: My earlier versions of Audacity recorded stream audio perfectly until a few months ago after I upgraded winows xp to sp3 and I have the same problem with several other stream audio recorders that I have downloaded and tested recently. Is there help and hope in sight?

Re: Windows XP Pro SP3 Stream Audio Recording
The input options you get are entirely down to the combination of your soundard, its associated device drivers and the O/S.
My Dell laptop with a Realtek souncard runs Widows XP-Profesional-SP3 - and it records streaming audio perfectly - it did so more or less straight out of the box. Sometimes it helps to upgrade to the latest driver - but sometimes you may need earlier versions of the drivers
My older Dell desktop PC will not record streaming audio - I can do it on that m/c but only by using an external USB soundcard with the outputs looped back to the inputs.

Re: Windows XP Pro SP3 Stream Audio Recording
My soundcard is an external USB soundcard - plugged to the PC via a USB port.
On the soundcard itself there are two pairs of RCA sockets one for input and one for output (the soundcard is a two way device). So all that loopback is is connnect the RCA outputs of the device to the RCA inputs. And then you have to set up Windows Audacity so that the output sound services are targetted on the external soundcard, rather than the onboard one on the PC. Then you should be able to play streamed adudio from t'interweb (or play files in iTunes/WMP/whatever - or even play a DVD in your PCs's DVD player). And at the same time record in Audacity.
In case this helps I've just fired up my laptop to get the Realtek software details.
Audio Driver Version : 5.10.0.5510
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0C
Audio Controller: HD Audio
Audio CODEC: ALC268
