extend a MP3 with silence versus trim MP3

Dear sir,

I would like to add a few seconds of silence to the beginning and the end of my MP3 file. So far no problem in the Audacity program. When I press play, the extra seconds are added. But when I export to a new MP3 file, all of a sudden the extra seconds of silence at the beginning and end have disappeared. What do I do wrong?

Best regards, Cees

How did you add the silence? Generate > Silence?

Audacity doesn't actually edit MP3 files. Few programs can. They convert it to editor native format, edit that, and then convert back. As a first pass, I would Edit > Select > All and try to export that.

Can you Export As WAV? A work-around would be to do that and then use that as the master to create the new MP3.
