Hello,
I am a fairly new audacity user and just got a USB mic today. I plugged the mic into my machine (Vista sp1) set up the USB microphone in control panel and it works fine with windows sound recorder. Audacity works fine with other input sources, but when I change it to the USB mic in the audio I/O menu and then try to record, I get-- Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and project sample rate.
I have checked both and everything is at 44.1 KHz for the sample rate.
The other weird thing is that when I select the USB mic as the input and click on Help- Audio Device info, Audacity crashes.
The mic is a stereo mic and was selected to record 2 channels in the audio I/O menu.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Error message
It's not just the sample frequency. Everything has to match. 44100, 16 bit, stereo. I went 'round and 'round with my USB microphone before I understood that it needed to be in mono.
"Error opening sound device..." is a sore point with Audacity. It's a complete show stopper, the tools are no help, and the developers have no good idea what to do.
