The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Hello,

I am hoping you can help me... i have incurred the same issue - i saved my tracks as 'save as' and now when i go to reopen them, it gives me the following message: "Error opening project. Couldnt find the project data folder: (Title of track saved). Unable to open project file."

Can you please tell me how i can open them - i have literally copied hundreds in this way and can not recopy the original material. Your advice is very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Katie

HI Katie,
I am a NUBIE in all this stuff but if you go to the (Board Index) and then to (Audacity Stable 1.2.x) and look for( Lost Audacity data file) I think you should be able to click on it and see all the Posts for: rburrhead, It's 3pages long and I was helped by Koz & WC. Its loaded with INFO. those guys really know what they are doing. I don't use the --"Save AS" I export as a WAV file first to a file on my hard drive like Koz told me to do and it seems to be working. The "Save As" is used later after you pull the file back up to do your editing. Find my file and read everything Koz & WC said as they worked with me.
GOOD LUCK :)

PS If that dont work try making a new post to that board :?: :?:

katie,

Have you moved or deleted any Audacity related files? They need to stay in place once a project is saved.

Each project is comprised of a PROJECT_NAME.aup file and the PROJECT_NAME_data folder. Both need to stay put. If you restore those files to their original place, then your projects should work.

Thanks to "alatham" for answering Katie.

I didn't know what to tell her because I haven't even started to "Edit" my files yet, and I don't know just what she is doing. :?: I am still recording and Exporting as WAV files. I hope what I told her was OK , there is a lot of good INFO there. I hope she can find it , I guess she will be able to pull it up. if she needs to. I leave her to YOU EXPERTS :P

hiya

Sorry for my late reply. Thanks guys for your info. Alatham - I havnt moved or deleted any files, all the tracks have both the folder and other icon in, so that can't be the problem. What I did forget to mention is that I originally recorded the tracks on my brother's Mac, and now I have copied them to a harddrive in order to transfer/edit them on my windows laptop. But the tracks do not play on either pc. Rburrhead - I posted my question at the bottom of your original post that had the answers from the 'pros' on, but have not been able to fix the problem by reading through their responses. Thank you once again for your help, but would appreciate if there are any more tips on how to fix it??

Katie,

I'm not certain, but I think that there's an odd issue moving projects from Mac to Windows.

The only technique I know that will certainly work is if you export each track individually and rebuild the project on the new computer. It's not as bad as it sounds.

In order to do that, open the Mac project, write down the gain and pan setting for each track, set each track to a gain = 0, and pan - center. Now, highlight a single track and click Tracks -> Quick Mix, and then export that track by itself. Repeat that for every track.

There's a good reason for applying Quick Mix here, though it may not be immediately apparent. Applying quick mix will add a bunch of silence to the beginning of the track so that everything lines up when you import them into the Windows machine. If you don't do this, then you'll have to manually line up each track when you import it into the new project.

If the added space is a concern, you can also write down the starting position of each track (you should still reset the gain and pan sliders though).

Hi Alatham,

With the advice you gave me previously, I can not even open the Mac project on either the Mac or my windows pc to do what you say, so have been unsuccessful! Tried everything else I know and still no luck. Any other tips/advice greatly appreciated.

Katie
